Design Plan
Together we will review the layout of your system, including:
- The areas to be covered
- The number of zones required
- The placement of heads, valves, and sensors
- The types of heads to be used
- The best location for the water main to come out of the house
- The type of soil, and
- The property’s sun/shade conditions
The Best Parts Available
MVP believes in quality. That’s why we use Hunter Brand products for the majority of our sprinkler parts, including Rotary Heads, Mist Heads, Valves, Rain Sensors, Clocks, and Nozzles. In our opinion, Hunter Brand products are extremely reliable and top of the line.
Note that MVP installs a double-check valve at the water main. The double check is better and safer than the standard back-flow valve in that it restricts any outside water from getting into your drinking water.
We also recommend using an outdoor clock/timer for the simple reason that in the case of a service call, no one has to be home or leave work to be available for the service.
During the installation, damage to the existing lawn is common. Our Ditch Witch 410SX is a great machine with a pipe puller/trencher. It is designed to install underground sprinkler systems without digging a trench. While the pipe puller minimizes lawn damage, your installation will still require some manual digging. We will grade, repair, and seed all disrupted areas.
We will adjust all heads, drip lines, and clock settings so you can rest assured your new system will run properly from the start. There is a full two (2) year guarantee on all parts installed.
Spring Turn-ons

We believe the Spring Turn-on is an important first step to maintaining a properly functioning lawn sprinkler system. That’s why we approach the Spring Turn-on a little differently from other lawn irrigation companies.
We work on each zone one-by-one and make sure everything is in working order before moving on to the next zone.
Spring Turn-on Checklist
- Adjust each head to ensure the spray and direction are providing the proper lawn coverage
- Adjust each riser to ensure they are reaching over the plants and shrubs properly
- Replace any heads that are leaking, not moving, not popping up, or just plain broken
- Check the wiring inside the valve boxes to make sure the connections to each valve solenoid are properly wired and protected
- And as important last step, we cut out the grass growing around the sprinkler heads to insure no debris will be pulled down inside the head affecting the gears or seals. This is very important and often not done by other irrigation companies!
Sometimes after a very cold winter the main and secondary poly-sprinkler pipe may break. We will dig up, fix, backfill, and seed the affected area.
Setting Up the Clock/Timer
After we’ve completed the maintenance and repair of each of the sprinkler zones, we will set the clock for Spring operation. Choosing the correct start times and duration of the watering period on a zone-by-zone basis is important to the cost effective and efficient operation of your system and helps keep your grass green throughout the season.
Sometimes a one-time setting will last until the Fall, but more times than not, another adjustment will be made in the Summer as daylight hours change and the Summer days heat up.
And as a further example of our attention to detail – at MVP Irrigation, we replace your 9-volt battery as part of the Spring Turn-on.
Rain Sensor
A well functioning rain sensor is another key to keeping your sprinkler system running properly and saving money on your water bills. The sensor will cut-off your system when it’s raining or after it has just rained.
We typically set our rain sensors to turn off the system at around 1/2″ of rain – but you can set it to operate from 1/8″ to about 1 1/2″.
There are hard wired and wireless rain sensors. We will recommend the right one for you. For example, if you have a 2-story high roof line, the wireless could be the right one for you. On the other hand, hardwired sensors usually are better at shorter distances.
Winter Blow-outs
Winter Blow-outs are the final step in the proper maintenance and care of a good lawn sprinkler system. With MVP, you can be sure your system will be properly shut down for the season.
We own and maintain our own compressor so you don’t have to worry about waiting for us to line up a rental compressor – you call and we show up to close down the system. It’s that simple.
